Originally, Ismar was asked to design a feature using the text of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. He built a model of a wall-like feature with columns and stylized figures on top of the wall. (Unfortunately we have no photos.) For some reason, the Gettysburg Address was abandoned and the Declaration of Independence was substituted for a feature that was completed in 1985. The figures also fell by the wayside. These are pen and ink sketches for five panels remain. Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, LI, NY, 1980s.
Additional lettering for the feature, perhaps for the opposite side.
